HIGH TIDE LOW TIDE

THE TIME AND SPACE IN BETWEEN

Dear Friends

Above you will see an edit of the incredible performance by Amália Santos dancing to a piece i composed for the opening night of the HIGH TIDE LOW TIDE exhibition by Jason McGlade and Ricardo Cruzes over in Lagos, Portugal.

Jason and Ricardo asked me to play an atmospheric drone set as i had provided some music for their stop frame pieces in the show. I was of course delighted to be involved. Then a few weeks before the show Ricardo suggested i write a piece for Amália to perform to on the opening night.

It was an interesting process and something i’d never done before so i was excited about the challenge. I made 4 or 5 different variations of the theme and with the help of Amália we were able to stitch elements of each together to create the final arrangement.

The exhibition itself is a really unique collaboration between Jason and Ricardo and i urge you to check out their solo work as well as what they have done for this particular show.

For the geeks among you, I had to travel light so i worked on a set using my MengQi Wingie and Monome Norns Shield. I played for 3 hours on the night, my first time doing my transcendental drone set LIVE. It was hugely enjoyable and i hope to be doing more of that soon.

I’ve been encouraged by the response to the show and have decided to make the Theme and its subtext theme available to download on my ZAPO bandcamp page

I want to thank Jason and Ricardo for inviting me to be a part of the show and perhaps we can bring this unique collaborative exhibition to Glasgow and London. Fingers crossed.

I’d also like to thank Amália Santos for her help in the final arrangement of the piece and for bringing my music to life in a way i would never have thought possible.
